WHY RENT AT SEKREPATU AND WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

Who is eligible?

The foundation rents its houses to residents (those who are registered as residents of Suriname, regardless of the nationality) who have not or are not able to have a house. The lease is in principle for an indefinite period, provided that the parties adhere to the lease conditions. The house will never become your property. There is no possibility for lease-purchase.

A very important selection criteria to become eligible for a rental house of the foundation is your gross income. The aspiring tenant needs to have a gross income which is three times the rent of the assigned house.

For example: in case the rent is 150 Euro a month, the total income of the tenant should be 450 Euro a month. The electricity and water bills you should pay yourself. When a house is assigned, the first month’s rent and a deposit of 2 months need to be paid.

Aspiring tenants who do not comply with the income criteria may present a solid guarantor. The guarantor needs to know that he/she could be held legally responsible in case the rental obligations (rent arrears, material damage etc.) are not fulfilled by the tenant. A tenant with a guarantor needs to pay a higher deposit (3 to 6 times the monthly rent).
